Review of “Totsugeki Kosupure Daigiten”:

We enjoyed this tape for a few reasons.  First, the hostess (Moe Nagasaki) was energetic and polite to the cosplayers.  She appeared genuinely interested in what the cosplayers had to say.  Ms. Nagasaki introduced herself and asked permission to videotape each cosplayer prior to asking questions.  Unlike "Cosplay Encyclopedia", this cosplay documentary gives viewers good camera shots of the costumes.  In some cases, special costume details are discussed and the camera slowly pans over them.  Next, there are some amazing shots of Tokyo Big Sight jammed packed with cosplayers.  It really gives one a sense of how popular the Comiket is, and the footage is fairly current - from July 2000.  This tape also includes footage from a cosplay dance party.  Another plus, is they interview a cosplayer at home, while she constructs her Naga the Serpent costume.  The cosplayer describes how she will assemble the pieces together, and the challenges of designing a revealing costume.  Towards the end of the tape, the hostess interviews her at the Comiket, and it's nice to see the finished product.

Now, our critique.

It would have been nice to see more male cosplayers interviewed.  There were plenty of male cosplayers walking around in the background, including a Metal Violator Hakaider.  Alas, the hostess wanted to interview young women in the trendiest cosplay fashions.

Many cosplayers were interviewed.

Speaking of trendy... There are more video game characters depicted on the tape, however, some characters are over-represented.  In our opinion, it would have been nice to see cosplayers from a variety of series, instead of finding every Di Gi Charat cosplayer to interview.  There were some amazing cosplayers in the background we would have preferred to see up close.

"Super twins", Luke and Michiru were modeling their latest G-Taste fashions.

In closing, “Totsugeki Kosupure Daigiten” is an entertaining video and we recommend it.  Good camera work makes this tape worth looking into to.
